Governance

Charity Project PK UK is a division of Charity Project PK Worldwide (IRW), an international non-profit organisation founded in Birmingham in 1984.

Governed by Charity Project PK Worldwide, our three key aims are:

  • To raise more funds to transform and save more lives
  • To transform the lives of marginalised & vulnerable communities in the UK through effective domestic programming
  • To use advocacy to influence key audiences & the media for Charity Project PK global and domestic aims

Based in London, we work closely with the IRW Secretariat in Birmingham (UK) – the international office of the Charity Project PK Federation. The CEO of IRW is Waseem Ahmad.

Charity Project PK Worldwide

Charity Project PK Worldwide oversees global standards, coordinates and monitors project implementation, identifies new areas for fund development, oversees the response to emergencies and disasters by members of the Charity Project PK federation and supports them as needed with marketing and media materials.

Charity Project PK Worldwide is also responsible for coordinating engagement relations with multi-lateral institutions, representing the federation in international forums and developing and coordinating the global strategy.

Charity Project PK is a purely humanitarian organisation with no political affiliations. We work to uphold the strictest humanitarian standards of neutrality, impartiality and independence, assisting people of all faiths and none, without discrimination by race, religion or gender.

Board of Directors and Trustees

The CEO of IRW chairs the Board of Directors, which is made up of the division directors. Division directors make sure that the policies laid down by the Board of Trustees are implemented, and they also support the work of other staff and volunteers.

Charity Project PK UK’s representative on the Board of Directors is the UK Director, Mr Tufail Hussain.

The IRW Board of Trustees oversees the strategic direction of IRW and works closely with the CEO and Board of Directors, providing oversight, advice and guidance.

Independent Commission

Charity Project PK  Worldwide established an independent commission to examine trustee vetting and conduct, and wider global governance arrangements. The independent commission, led by former UK Attorney General Dominic Grieve QC and assisted by Sir Clive Jones, made 19 recommendations which IRW is committed to implementing.

The recommendations include reforms to the membership and governance of IRW’s international Board, updating the charity’s Code of Conduct, and utilising external expertise when undertaking the vetting of trustees.

The International General Assembly (IGA) is the highest body of the new Charity Project PK Worldwide governance structure and consists mainly of representatives elected by Charity Project PK partner offices across five continents, creating a body that is truly globally representative.

Up to a third of the IGA Board will be independent members from outside the Charity Project PK family, helping to bring additional specialist skills and experience, as well as increased diversity and accountability.

The IGA, which met for the first time in August 2020, has established a new Membership Accreditation Committee (MAC), which oversees the operations of the Board of Trustees and strengthens accountability within the IGA. The MAC is responsible for making recommendations on the suitability of members (both entities and individuals) to the IGA.

The MAC is still new and in its initial phase of development, and therefore an interim MAC is currently operating. This is chaired by Dr Ihab Saad, who represents Charity Project PK USA on the IGA and is also the Chair of Charity Project PK Worldwide’s Board of Trustees, having been elected to the Board by his fellow IGA members.
