A crucial component of our Safeguarding Policy is the mandatory training of all Charity Project PK staff and representatives on safeguarding and related policies.

The Board is supported by a dedicated Audit and Finance Committee, responsible for ensuring that Charity Project PK Worldwide’s safeguarding procedures are put into practice,.
Staff in our country offices have been trained in safeguarding, and we invest in their development, a vital part of embedding and improving safeguarding practices across our operations.
We equip country directors with regional workshops; delivering training on specific areas such as child protection; and hold in-depth online training for country offices.
Our support for orphans, along with all our programmes, is underpinned by the work of dedicated safeguarding leads in every country who ensure that we follow best practice and procedures to keep vulnerable adults and children safe from abuse.
Restoring and protecting dignity is central to Charity Project PK humanitarian and development work. We take protection concerns very seriously, conduct diligent investigations of all complaints raised, and take disciplinary action under our grievance and complaints policy.
A survivor-centred approach is adopted which places the needs and wishes of the survivor at the heart of our work, providing timely support and interventions to ensure their health, safety and wellbeing.
Anyone found to breach any policy within the safeguarding framework could be subject to disciplinary procedures and potential legal action. It’s mandatory upon all to report concerns or allegations using the complaints mechanism or procedure in place.
Charity Project PK Worldwide is committed to creating and maintaining a culture whereby all staff have the right to be treated with dignity, respect and have equal opportunities. We aim to act as role models through our actions and behaviour and the Dignity at Work Policy sets out these expectations.
In addition, and as part of our ongoing commitment to strengthen safeguards, IRW has a robust and rigorous recruitment procedure that seeks to screen out people who may pose a risk to staff, volunteers, representatives or those we serve.
Charity Project PK wants to ensure we have safe and confidential approaches for staff to raise their concerns. A whistleblowing line is in place to support whistle-blowers to make disclosures which are protected by the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998. The Act gives legal protection to workers who disclose certain serious concerns which qualify as being in the public interest. The organisation has put in place a Whistleblowing Policy to ensure that all staff feel able to raise concerns confidentially and even anonymously if they are a matter of public interest.
In 2021 we ran a dedicated project covering our operations in Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Jordan and Afghanistan to help strengthen safeguarding infrastructure.
Examples included developing child-friendly complaints mechanisms and raising awareness of children and guardians in Jordan; incorporating safeguarding in each aspect of monitoring and evaluation activity; and ensuring community understanding of the issues at the start of projects in Kenya. In Afghanistan, we strengthened complaints mechanisms in projects serving remote areas, designing culturally sensitive materials and raising the confidence of local community members.
