Supporting
women’s rights

Inspired and guided by our faith-based values, Charity Project PK is dedicated to building a fairer, more equal world for everyone. Through our policies, programmes and campaigning we support  women’s rights across the globe.

We have a dedicated team working to ensure that we are as diverse and inclusive as possible as we work to eradicate poverty.

Meeting this responsibility is at the core of Charity Project PK values, particularly the promotion of social justice (‘adl).

“You who believe, uphold justice and bear witness to God, even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or your close relatives. Whether the person is rich or poor, God can best take care of both. Refrain from following your own desire, so that you can act justly – if you distort or neglect justice, God is fully aware of what you do.”

Qur’an 4:135

Our Gender Equality Steering Group

Charity Project PK policies to improve women’s rights begins internally with our own staff.

In 2021 we set up a Gender Equality Steering Group, headed by a female member of our Board of Trustees and co-chaired by two female employees, and including representatives from all levels of the organisation.

This group recommends practical solutions that we can take forward to advance gender equality – in particular, how we can improve female staff’s career progression within Charity Project PK and how we can enhance the selection and recruitment of women in leadership positions.

The steering group is consulting with staff at all levels to review our organisational culture and how we can continue to make our working environment more positive for women. The group aims to realise the organisational objectives set out in Charity Project PK wider Women’s Rights policy.

The Gender Pay Gap

Charity Project PK are committed to closing the gender pay gap, and dedicated to enabling women to realise their rights and to build a fairer, more equal world for everyone.

We are committed to increasing female representation at our senior levels, improving the working lives of women throughout the organisation, and providing a conducive, safe and flexible working environment for everyone.

To help us close the gender pay gap, we have launched a range of initiatives to recruit and retain a diverse workforce where women are represented at every level of the organisation.

Helping to achieve women’s rights  across the globe

Closing the gender pay gap is just one of the many aspects of our women’s rights  work around the world.

Charity Project PK released its Policy in 2015, highlighting bold commitments for ending injustice in humanitarian and development contexts. This includes campaigns on combating gender based violence (GBV) – with a particular focus on:

  • Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C): Female genital mutilation (FGM) affects more than 200 million girls and women alive today in 30 countries.
  • Domestic violence: 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced either intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime.
  • Early and forced marriages: Over 700 million women alive today were married when they were under 18, and of those some 250 million were married before they were 15.

Charity Project PK mission is to eradicate poverty and end human suffering.

To achieve this, it is crucial that issues of gender injustice are given a major focus, along with the reasons injustice persists.
